GI Appointment And Jimmie's First Cold?

First of all -we are pretty sure Jimmie is sick. He has a lot of mucous in his nose and throat and is pretty fussy. He also did not sleep last night well at all. Justin has been sick, so we are thinking more than likely Jimmie has the same thing. Things have progressed throughout the day. At first Rachael thought he might just be refluxing a lot more. And this morning nobody at the GI consult really suspected he was sick. He does have his appointment with the Neo tomorrow so that's good timing! So far he's handling this fine. Please pray that Jimmie would get over this cold quickly and easily. It's so amazing that he has gone this long without ever being sick.

The GI doc wants to do an endoscopy. This is where they would sedate Jimmie. They would do the procedure in an operating room in case he ended up having to be intubated and put under full anesthesia. They would put a scope down his esophagus and visualize that area as well as his stomach and large intestine. They would also take little biopsies as they go to test the tissue for signs of allergies. Rachael and Justin are pretty sure they will just continue to find he has severe reflux. Rach asked what they would do if signs of allergies were found and they said they would try him on an expensive formula that's supposedly designed for that issue. So Rach said well-- why not just try that now? They agreed. So Rach bought a $25 can of formula (Similac Almimentum). They will try that for 5 or 6 days and see if that makes a difference. But more than likely there will be an endoscopy in Jimmie's future. The GI doc would not be comfortable with this struggle and the NG tube going on for more than 6 months. At that point he would recommend a Fundo and a G tube surgery.

Rachael feels like there is a little more direction now. She doesn't neccesarrily like the direction it's headed, but at least there is a bit of a plan.

I have some fun new pictures and video and more stuff I wanted to work into this blog, but my kiddos are not cooperating tonight. (-: Perhaps tomorrow . . .

We are so grateful for your prayers! Keep fighting for sweet Jimmie!

Love,
Amber

  4. Update on that new formula? And breast milk? I know you know this, but...Mother's intuition is NOT to be messed with! Rachael knows exactly what Jimmie needs, and she should continue to fight for what she thinks is the best course of action. Go Jimmie Go! Go Rachael Go!
