Jimmie The Fish

Jimmie gained 3 OUNCES!! Woooohooo! So he is 4 pounds 4 ounces! This is such awesome news because it means that he really is taking in milk when he nurses. And even with the extra work he is still gaining.

The lactation consultant came in today at Rachael's request and they have decided that working around the feeding tube in Jimmie's mouth while he is breastfeeding is no longer "working". If he is to really make any more improvements the tube needs to be out of the way. In most cases this would be when they would switch the tube to the nose, but that is NOT an option for Jimmie. The Lactation Consultant rarely if ever recommends bottle feeding, but she did today. If Jimmie can quickly learn to take the rest of his feeds by mouth they can get rid of the tube and continue working on the breastfeeding. The hope is that Jimmie will adapt to both breast and bottle and or switch completely back to the breast when that is possible. Pray that this is so. Rachael feels like this is probably a good idea at this point. It is the quickest way to get him in a position to go home. She will continue to work with Jimmie breastfeeding during his feeds throughout the day and they will work on bottle feeding when Rach is not the there.

Jimmie's tummy was much happier today. Yeah!!! Keep praying those tummy prayers.

Our long time friend Nellie created this wonderful piece of art and has gifted Jimmie with it. My Dad took a picture of it. See if you can spot Jimmie- the fish.

What an awesome picture of our little Jimmie. I cannot overstate how remarkable and unusual Jimmie's journey has been compared to most babies born in the 24th week. The Doctors and Nurse Practitioners have continually commented on it. We are so blessed and grateful to God for our miracle- Jimmie!

Love,
Amber

P.S. Nellie- I miss you. (-:

  2. That's great! I mentioned before how I had to supplement Hosea with a bottle when he was a born (he was a near-term preemie), and one day he just refused the bottle! I pray that Jimmie will, too!!

You all are doing great! That's a great picture. Keep on going against the stream of what's "expected," Jimmie!!

    Love you all,
    Janelle

  3. Janelle, that is exactly right! Nellie named the painting "against the flow". It is really beautiful. Thank you, Nellie for all your prayers and the gift! It is one of those lifetime treasures!
Blessed be the Lord from whom all blessings flow!

  7. that is awesome, maybe try the lowest flow bottle for jimmie although he will have to work harder it will be more like breast feeding so hopefully he and mom can continue to bond instead of him liking the bottle too much!

    Praying for all of you!
